 In India, the Defence System is divided into three parts:  Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Airforce.

The defence sector offers a range of career options to the students, who have just completed their 12th standard. These career options provide a bright future to the students who are passionate about serving the country. In this article, we will discuss various career options in the defence sector after 12th.


Indian Army

Indian Army is the largest of the three Indian Armed Forces. Indian Army is responsible for maintaining peace and security in the country. The Indian Army is divided into three main branches:  Infantry, Artillery and the Armoured Corps.


(i) Infantry - The infantry is the backbone of the Indian Army. It is responsible for ground operations. The infantry provides a range of job opportunities such as Infantry Soldier, Officer in the Infantry, and Technical Entry Scheme (TES) for Men.


(ii) Artillery - The artillery branch is responsible for providing fire support to the infantry. The artillery provides a range of job opportunities such as Officer in the Artillery and Technical Entry Scheme (TES) for Men.


(iii) Armoured Corps - The Armoured Corps is responsible for providing protection to the infantry. The Armoured Corps provides a range of job opportunities such as Officer in the Armoured Corps and Technical Entry Scheme (TES) for Men.


Indian Navy

The Indian Navy is responsible for protecting the nation's ocean borders. The Indian Navy is divided into two main branches: Executive Branch and Technical Branch.


(i) Executive Branch - The executive branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the ships &  Aircraft career. The executive branch provides a range of job opportunities such as Officer in the Executive Branch, Officer in the Hydrographic Branch, Officer in the Naval Armament Inspection Branch and Officer in the Law Branch.


(ii) Technical Branch - The technical branch is responsible for the maintenance of the ships. The technical branch provides a range of job opportunities such as Officer in the Engineering Branch and Officer in the Electrical Branch.


Indian Airforce

Indian Airforce is responsible for protecting India's 

 airspace. The Indian Airforce is divided into two main branches: Flying Branch and Technical Branch.


(i) Flying Branch - The flying branch is responsible for operating and maintaining the aircraft. The flying branch provides a range of job opportunities such as Pilot Officer, Flying Officer and Flight Lieutenant.


(ii) Technical Branch - The technical branch is responsible for the maintenance of the aircraft. The technical branch provides a range of job opportunities such as Officer in the Engineering Branch and Officer in the Electrical Branch.


Indian Coast Guard

The Indian Coast Guard is responsible for protecting the nation's maritime interests. The Indian Coast Guard provides a range of job opportunities such as Assistant Commandant and Yantrik.


Para Military Forces

Apart from the above-mentioned career options, there are various Para Military Forces, which come under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Para Military Forces include Border Security Force (BSF)/ Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)/ Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)/ Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). These Para Military Forces provide a range of job opportunities such as Constable, Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Sub-Inspector and Commandant.
